Vision 2026 Gears Up COVID Response: 50-Bedded Covid Field Hospital comes up in Jamia Nagar, Delhi

The country is facing an acute scarcity of healthcare and medical facilities to tackle the second COVID wave. Partnering NGOs and health care institutions under “Vision 2026” have come forward to set up field hospitals and equip existing medical centers for COVID preparedness.

A 50-bedded Covid Field Hospital will start functional from today at Jamia Nagar, Delhi established in association with Aster Volunteers, the CSR arm of UAE-based Aster DM Healthcare and Alshifa Multispeciality Hospital, Jamia Nagar, Delhi under the Human Welfare Trust.

The hospital is setup at Scholar School run by Human Welfare Foundation, with oxygen support, will in the first phase admit 25 patients with non-severe symptoms.

The field hospital is equipped with 100 oxygen cylinders, 10 oxygen concentrators, nebulization facilities, separate wards for positive patients, men and women without symptoms, nursing staff and regular three-course meals for patients. In addition, a 24-hour ambulance service with oxygen facilities is available to transport the critically ill to other Covid hospitals. The Field Hospital will be expanded with more facilities, if the necessity rises.

All services at Field Hospital, including treatment and meals, are provided free to all patients. Hotel The Leela Palace New Delhi is sponsoring cooked meals for all patients and staff three times a day. A 30-member medical team consisting of experienced doctors and paramedical staff is working for the smooth functioning of the Field Hospital.

Currently, the 40-bed facility at Alshifa Hospital is reserved exclusively for Covid treatment. ICU and ventilator facilities are available at Alshifa.

Alshifa Multispeciality Hospital in Jamia Nagar, Delhi has also gone ahead with installing a medical oxygen generation plant and construction of liquid medical oxygen (LMO) tank of 10,000 liters capacity at its premises. Alshifa is also procuring 10 more ventilators.

Al-Shifa Multi-Speciality Hospital, running since 2011, was given approval by the Delhi health department to admit a maximum of 40 Covid patients after the second Covid wave hit the nation a month ago. Alshifa conducted 1400 COVID tests, vaccinated 2400 people and treated more than 100 COVID patients in April. It also provides ambulance services in the Delhi region for the poor and needy COVID patients.

The doctors and other staffers at Alshifa hospital are working round the clock to provide treatment to COVID patients as per the Union Health Ministry guidelines.

Medical Service Society, Human Welfare Trust and Human Welfare Foundation have jointly initiated projects to facilitate medical centers and COVID care centers across the country.

Medical Service Society, another partnering organization of “Vision 2026” is offering free COVID care services in various states. Nagpur COVID Centre with 70 bed capacity in Maharashtra has till now successfully treated 630 patients. The Free Telephonic Counselling service run by MSS receives on an average 50 to 60 calls daily and has provided consultation to more than 300 patients.

Vision 2026 is committed to provide 500 Oxygen concentrators, 500 Oxygen cylinders, 1000 Oximeters, 50 Bipap Machines etc. to medical centers functioning under it in various states. The NGO will also need 10,000 litre sanitizer, 2500 Hygiene Kit and 5000 PPE kits.

Vision 2026 and the partnering NGOs have geared up to face the challenge thrown up by the second wave of COVID pandemic and rendering services across the country.
